WIHOA Mentorship Program

“We don’t send players out without a coach, why would we do that to referees?”

The purpose of the WIHOA mentorship program is to provide USA Hockey certified officials with the support and instruction that they need to be succesful. We want to ensure that our new (and old) officials are able to maintain the highest standards of ice hockey officiating. By placing officials with enthusiastic and experienced mentors, we hope to foster an environment that promotes self-confidence and hard work. Officials within the mentorship program will work with their mentor to complete registration, take their open book exam, navigate the certification process, and begin working games.

Officials within the mentorship program will work with their mentor to complete registration, take their open book exam, navigate the certification process, and begin working games. The mentor will be available throughout the season to address any concerns or questions that may arise. At the end of the year, the mentor will provide the mentee a summary of their progress over the season and make goals for the next season.
