The WIHOA Mentor and Evaluation Program is designed to support USA Hockey-certified officials in their development and performance throughout the season. Through mentorship and game evaluations, we aim to help officials at all levels maintain the highest standards of officiating.
Mentorship: The mentorship aspect pairs officials with experienced and dedicated mentors who guide them through key milestones, including registration, certification, and working their first games. Mentors provide ongoing support, offering advice and answering questions throughout the season. At the end of the season, each mentor reviews the official's progress and helps establish goals for the next year, fostering continuous growth and self-improvement.
Game Evaluations: Separate from mentorship, game evaluations are conducted by supervisors who attend games to assess on-ice performance. These supervisors provide officials with valuable feedback focused on improving officiating techniques and ensuring consistency. Evaluations offer officials the opportunity to identify areas for improvement and receive constructive input to enhance their skills.
By combining mentorship with performance evaluations, the WIHOA program ensures that officials receive comprehensive support and feedback to develop into skilled and confident referees.
